In order to apply for the visa, he must journey to another country, specifically Jordan, since the U.S. does not provide an option for Palestinians living under occupation in the West Bank to apply. With only two weeks left, uncertainty looms over whether he will even be able to travel. Attending this exceptional event represents a significant opportunity; however, returning to the stark reality on the ground evokes a stark contrast. There is a palpable sense of dissonance.
You’ve continued documenting since the release of “No Other Land.” Do you think there’s potential for another documentary to emerge from this experience?
ADRA Honestly, I’m uncertain. The process was lengthy and challenging. Our filming goes beyond simply creating a movie; we also aim to record the actions, aggressions, and violations occurring around us. I share some of this footage on social media, support human rights organizations, and occasionally present it in the occupation courts. My father faced unfounded accusations from settlers, and I had video evidence from that incident, which contradicted their claims. I needed to present my footage to the judge.
ABRAHAM We’re committed to continuing our work together as journalists. For now, though, our primary focus is on maximizing the impact of this film.
Basel, since your time working on the film, you’ve gotten married, correct?
ADRA Yes, it has been a year since my marriage.
In the documentary, you discuss how your parents instilled in you the values of activism and the significance of documenting the circumstances in your homeland. As you start your own family, do you intend to pass this legacy on to your children?
ADRA I sincerely hope that I won’t have to teach them this, and that by the time they grow up, the situation will have improved, allowing us to live a different life. I have a daughter now, just a month old, and I genuinely wish that she and future generations won’t need to face these challenges and will enjoy a better future. But if circumstances remain unchanged, I really don’t know what the future holds.
