Alec and Hilaria Baldwin’s reality series documents their ‘exceptionally challenging’ period leading up to the ‘Rust’ trial.

Alec Baldwin faced deep concerns for his family’s wellbeing and his own future as he prepared for the Rust trial. The upcoming TLC reality show, The Baldwins, provides a glimpse into this challenging period for the actor and his wife, Hilaria.

The trial, which revolves around an involuntary manslaughter charge following the tragic accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, was ultimately dismissed midtrial. However, Baldwin and Hilaria were unaware of this outcome while filming the show.

Reflecting on the past year, Alec, now 66, expressed his anxiety candidly in the series. "This past year was so hard," he remarked. He admitted to feeling happier in peaceful slumber than in waking moments, finding solace in Hilaria, 41, and their seven young children.

"I truly don’t know where I would be without you and the kids as I navigated this," Alec told Hilaria, highlighting the significant role their family played during this tumultuous time.

Hilaria also shared insights about the emotional toll Alec’s situation took on him. "Watching Alec suffer is in no way meant to compare to Halyna’s loss," she said, expressing sorrow for Hutchins’ family, particularly her young son. She noted that those close to Alec had observed a deterioration in his mental health, which included a PTSD diagnosis related to the incident.

As the couple discussed their fears of the trial’s potential outcomes, they emphasized the importance of shielding their children—daughters Carmen, María, Ilaria and sons Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, and Edu—from this painful chapter. Hilaria poignantly stated, "This pain will forever be a part of our family story."

Alec’s anxiety manifested as constant worry, coupled with feelings of panic and sleeplessness as he faced the real possibility of prison. Hilaria shared her struggle as they awaited the trial’s verdict, fearing the worst for their family’s future.

Hilaria, transitioning from yoga instructor to author, appeared to embrace their reality show experience more than Alec. She used this platform to address the public’s perception of her, particularly regarding accusations about her accent and background. Despite facing criticism, including claims of being a gold digger, Hilaria spoke candidly about the emotional weight of such judgments.

The reality show promises to capture both the challenges and humorous moments of raising a large family, featuring their lively household filled with kids, dogs, and cats. A sneak peek into Rafael’s birthday celebration showcased the delightful chaos that comes with parenting.

The Baldwins will premiere on February 23 at 10 PM ET on TLC, featuring new episodes weekly.
