Upcoming Film Announcement: "Another Simple Favor"
Date: February 10, 2025
Award-winning actresses Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are reuniting for the highly anticipated sequel to their 2018 film, A Simple Favor. The new movie, titled Another Simple Favor, is set to make its debut at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas next month.
The film’s official Instagram account teased fans with a playful message: “We have Another Simple Favor to ask you. Can you save the date?”
In the original film and its sequel, Kendrick stars as a single mother who runs a parenting vlog. Her character, Emily, befriends Lively’s Stephanie, a mysterious woman with complex secrets. As the plot unfolds, Stephanie goes missing, and Emily embarks on a thrilling journey to find her. The sequel sees these two characters heading to Capri, Italy, to celebrate Stephanie’s wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman.
Kendrick recently made her directorial debut with the film Woman of the Hour, released in 2023. This intense movie delves into the true story of serial killer Rodney Alcala, with Kendrick portraying Cheryl Bradshaw, who encounters Alcala on a dating show. The film highlights themes of power dynamics and the unsettling nature of Alcala’s character as Bradshaw uncovers his dark past. In a 2024 interview with the podcast “Crime Junkie AF,” Kendrick shared her decision to donate the film’s profits to organizations like RAINN and the National Center for Victims of Crime, stating, "It felt like the least I could do, given the subject of the film."
On the other hand, Blake Lively is fresh off her role in It Ends With Us, a film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. In this story, Lively’s character, Lily Bloom, navigates the complexities of a toxic relationship while reconnecting with her first love. However, issues arose on set between Lively and co-star Justin Baldoni, reportedly leading to creative conflicts and lawsuits due to allegations of harassment and detrimental working conditions.
Despite some backlash related to these tensions ahead of Another Simple Favor’s premiere, director Paul Feig praised Lively, dismissing negative comments and reaffirming her professionalism on set.
Following its premiere at SXSW, Another Simple Favor will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting May 1st, 2025.
