Filming of “Miami Vice ‘85” in Brooklyn was interrupted on Friday night when a man was taken into custody for threatening crew members with a knife.
The individual, identified as 23-year-old Alex Perez from Brooklyn, faces charges of menacing and criminal possession of a weapon following his arrest around 11 p.m. The New York Police Department confirmed to Variety that the incident occurred near Washington Cemetery on the film set, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
TMZ first shared video footage of the event, capturing the moment when police cuffed Perez and recovered a sizable butcher knife from his sweatshirt pocket. Reports indicate Perez has a history of five prior arrests, including charges related to gang activities, firearm assault, and burglary.
The Variety article revealed that plans for a reboot of “Miami Vice” featuring Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan were announced back in October 2025, with the film receiving its official title in April 2026. Jordan is set to portray Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, while Butler will take on the role of James “Sonny” Crockett. Recent images showcasing the duo in character emerged earlier this month coinciding with the start of filming.
According to the film’s synopsis, Kosinski’s “Miami Vice ‘85” will delve into “the allure and corruption of mid-1980s Miami,” taking inspiration from the pilot episode and the first season of the iconic television series that left a significant impact on culture and established trends in fashion and filmmaking. Dan Gilroy is credited with writing the script based on characters originally created by Anthony Yerkovich for the TV series.
The theatrical release for “Miami Vice ‘85” is set for August 6, 2027.
