Inde Navarrette has provided X-Men enthusiasts with an exciting preview of her portrayal of Rogue.
At the D23 Expo earlier this year, Marvel confirmed that the star of Obsession would be joining the cast of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot. In an interview with the Canadian news show Etalk, a reporter expressed fans’ eagerness to hear her take on Rogue’s Southern accent and asked her to deliver the character’s famous catchphrase, “sugar.”
With a smile, Navarrette acknowledged that she hasn’t practiced much yet, but shared her current rendition of the line: “My version’s just, ‘Sugar.’” She added that she’s open to making adjustments, mentioning, “I’m going to work on it, and I’ll collaborate with the Marvel team on how we want to approach it.”
In the Marvel Comics universe, Rogue, whose real name is Anna Marie, hails from Mississippi and possesses the power to temporarily absorb the abilities and memories of others.
The upcoming X-Men film marks a significant milestone for Navarrette, who gained widespread recognition following her impressive performance in Obsession. She joins a talented cast that includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, Asa Germann as Angel, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister.
Jake Schreier will direct the film, which is slated for release on May 5, 2028.
In a recent episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Navarrette expressed her excitement about taking on the role of Rogue. She stated, “I recognize that acting provides the freedom to embody a completely different person—one of whom is Rogue, Anna Marie… I hope to pay homage and show respect to the remarkable writers at Marvel, while having fun and adding my unique touch.”
Beyond her involvement with Marvel, Navarrette is set to star in the Apple Original Films sci-fi thriller The Waffle House Index, where she will also serve as an executive producer.
