Chris Brown’s prison sentence postponed in bottle assault case

Chris Brown has managed to escape imprisonment, at least for the time being, regarding his assault case involving a music producer in London that dates back three years.

The 37-year-old Grammy-winning R&B artist appeared in Southwark Crown Court on Monday, where a judge sentenced him to eight months, but the sentence was suspended for a year. Brown had faced a potential maximum of three years in prison after pleading not guilty to a charge of affray last July. Representatives for Brown did not immediately respond on Monday, although he had promoted his upcoming tour on Instagram in anticipation of the hearing.

The singer was arrested in May 2025 on suspicion of “grievous bodily harm,” following allegations that he assaulted music producer Amadeus “Abe” Diaw with a tequila bottle at Tape London nightclub in February 2023. Diaw had previously filed a civil lawsuit against Brown in Los Angeles in October 2023, claiming he was “brutally assaulted” and suffered severe injuries, including being stomped on while unconscious after the attack.

Initially pleading not guilty to the grievous bodily harm charge in June 2025, Brown changed his plea to not guilty in July, just before a trial that was scheduled for this month. His associate, Omololu Akinlolu, known as HoodyBaby, was also implicated in the incident; he pleaded guilty to affray and received a four-month suspended prison sentence.

While navigating his legal challenges both in the UK and at home, Brown has been busy touring with Usher on their North American stadium tour. The two artists are slated to perform at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on November 15 and 16.
