“Jury Duty” is making a comeback!
This comedy series first premiered on Amazon’s now-defunct streaming service Freevee in 2023, quickly becoming a surprise success. According to sources at Variety, it will return for a second season on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon has not yet commented on this renewal.
Furthermore, one insider revealed to Variety that the second season will take place at a corporate retreat instead of a courtroom and was filmed in Agoura Hills, a suburb of Los Angeles. Amazon has not confirmed these details.
In the inaugural season, the series followed Ronald Gladden as he navigated a chaotic trial, only to discover that the entire courtroom scenario was fabricated and that he was the only real participant among actors.
When approached by Variety regarding the possibility of future seasons, showrunner Cody Heller expressed the need for a fresh setting: “It would have to be in a whole different universe. You couldn’t just replicate jury duty, or viewers would question it. I believe there are countless possibilities for this format,” he stated. This sentiment was echoed by executive producers David Bernad and Todd Schulman during another interview with Variety.
“Jury Duty” was brought to life by creators Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who served as executive producers for Season 1 alongside Heller, Bernad, Schulman, Ruben Fleischer, Nicholas Hatton, Andrew Weinberg, and director Jake Szymanski.
The cast of Season 1 featured notable performances from Mekki Leeper, Alan Barinholtz, Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola, and many others, alongside Gladden.
Following the successful conclusion of “Jury Duty,” which showcased Gladden’s joyful acceptance of the elaborate prank, Amazon has signed an overall deal with Gladden, allowing him to create, develop, and star in various projects across platforms.
