Hunter Schafer claims her new passport inaccurately reflects her gender.

In a recent TikTok video, Hunter Schafer, known for her role in “Euphoria,” opened up about a troubling experience regarding her passport. The 26-year-old actress revealed that the new passport she received mistakenly identifies her as male, prompting her to consider the implications of potentially needing to disclose her transgender identity to Border Patrol agents.

Schafer explained that she had accurately filled out her application, designating her gender as female. However, upon receiving her passport, she found that the gender marker had been changed to male. This mishap, she believes, is a direct consequence of the anti-transgender policies enacted during the Trump administration, which aimed to restrict protections for the LGBTQ+ community. President Trump had signed executive orders deeming that only two sexes are recognized by the U.S. government, requiring that government-issued IDs, including passports, reflect an individual’s sex at birth.

Initially, Schafer dismissed the seriousness of these policies, thinking, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” She had updated her gender marker to female ten years ago and had assumed that her identification would continue to reflect her true identity. After losing her previous passport while filming in Barcelona, she sought to obtain a replacement, only to be confronted with this significant error.

Upon receiving her new passport, Schafer expressed that she was “shocked” and noted that her fame did not shield her from the effects of transphobic policies. She emphasized the importance of recognizing that such policies are no longer theoretical but are actively being implemented. Additionally, she expressed concern about the gradual introduction of these measures.

Within the first month of Trump’s presidency, several executive orders aimed at limiting gender-affirming care for LGBTQ+ youth and prohibiting transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports were also signed. Schafer remarked that the administration’s stance against transgender people is not merely rhetoric but a tangible reality affecting lives.

Despite the frustrations surrounding her passport issue, Schafer remains resilient. She affirmed that the incorrect gender designation does not alter her identity as a transgender individual. “Trans people are beautiful,” she stated, emphasizing that they will continue to exist and affirm their identities regardless of bureaucratic challenges. “I’m never going to stop being trans,” she declared firmly, denouncing the administration’s policies as detrimental.
