Gabriel Chavarria to Lead in ‘Real Ones’ Directed by Nick Anderson

EXCLUSIVE: Gabriel Chavarria, known for his role in Selena: The Series, is set to both produce and star in Real Ones, a new independent drama directed by Nick Anderson, who co-wrote the screenplay with Alma Leiva.

In this film, produced by Justin Nesbitt, Chavarria portrays Joseph, a clever ex-convict trying to reconstruct his life post-incarceration while fighting against the temptations of his former criminal lifestyle. Confronted with societal prejudice and the fear of estranging his family, Joseph accepts a legitimate position at a law firm to establish his value and transform his identity. However, he finds himself drawn back into drugs and gangs by his charismatic yet troubled best friend Esteban, while his passionate partner Tina battles her own undiscussed demons. Joseph ultimately learns that true redemption involves not just altering others’ perceptions of him but also reshaping his self-image.

Chavarria rose to prominence for his portrayal of A.B. Quintanilla, the brother of the late Tejano star Selena, in Netflix’s Selena: The Series, which aired for two seasons. He has also led the series The Purge on the USA Network and starred in Hulu’s East Los High, which received a Daytime Emmy nomination. His film credentials include significant roles in Freedom Writers alongside Hilary Swank and Patrick Dempsey, as well as appearances in Lowriders, War for the Planet of the Apes, and the Oscar-nominated film A Better Life.

Chavarria is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Momentum Talent and Literary Agency, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
